Prayer Focus and Creating Prayer Stories

Blessing ourselves
Liturgical Colours
Purple - preparation for Easter and Christman (Lent and Advent)
Red - Holy Spirit
White - Purification Easter and Christmas - Purification of the sacraments
Green - Ordinary time; Jesus going about his ordinary life being extraordinary awesome (kind, patient, forgiving - just like Jesus asked his friends to be)

Things to think about for prayer:

- What do you want to pray about? What is going on in our world today that you want to pray about?
- Have a assortment of fabrics, props etc that children can use to create a prayer story.
- opportunities for students to complete in groups and individual. An opportunity to explore what is deep in their hearts.

Support Staff Week

Today we celebrated our wonderful support staff. We acknowledged that they are absolute superheroes in our school, supporting our most vulnerable students, supporting the teacher and even keeping our plants alive!! We try to make sure that we not only acknowledge them today but everyday.

Teacher Observation Framework

Today in staff meeting we looked over the TOF. I want to ensure that all teachers are aware of the framework. This framework is very similar to our school's Pedagogy and Practise Model.

Collaborative Practise Staff Meeting

Staff Meeting week 2 Term 2

Teams reflected and reviewed what collaborative planning is and what is looks like at St Joe's.

As we have 11/18 new staff members it is timely to reflect. Teams will take the framework away and discuss at their next team meeting and we will refine at the next leadership meeting.

Pastoral Care - thoughts from Wellington NZCEO Aspiring Leaders

Pastoral Care - thoughts from Wellington NZCEO Aspiring Leaders

On what philosophy are our school decisions based?

Why are you here? Why a Catholic school?

What does teaching in a Catholic School mean to you?

What is the philosophy of pastoral care at St Joe’s?

Do students, staff and community know it/understand it?

“At St Joseph's Catholic School Pukekohe, we provide education in a safe, nurturing environment supported by a strong pastoral care network, in which each member of the school community is known, respected, cared for, and aware that they are loved unconditionally by God.

Behaviour management processes at our school are just, fair, and clear to all, and we ensure the mana of everyone involved is upheld. We are guided by restorative practice and Catholic social teaching. Our pastoral care systems reflect Gospel values and Church teachings, and draw on the support of the Church and external authorities.” - School Docs 5/5/25

  • It is the umbrella for all that happens in our school.

  • A ministry of mercy and compassion

  • It is an imitation of Jesus’ own presence - not about bringing Jesus to students; discovering that Jesus is already here.

  • Enables healing and growth

  • Deals with honesty

  • Nurtures growth towards wholeness and justice

  • Openness to learning

  • Inner attitude of heart that we as educators develop

  • We should not give up on any child
